Issue 20 explores the idea of layering – not only as a practical way of dressing, but also as a language of form, rhythm, protection, and self-expression.
In this issue, independent designers from around the world approach layered dressing through materials, construction, proportions, and details. The collection brings together both lighter and heavier garments that can be combined, adapted, and worn in different ways over time. Small details change how garments relate to one another and, through layering, create entirely new silhouettes.
In the magazine, you’ll find sewing patterns ranging from underwear to statement skirts, blouses, and warm outer layers. In some designs, layering emerges primarily through styling; in others, the layers are built into the construction – through ruffles, gathers, linings, pleats, and overlapping shapes. Materials move from airy and sheer to more protective and sturdy fabrics: lightweight cottons, transparent materials, softly draping fabrics, shape-holding suiting fabric, and heavier wool.
Issue 20 also features an updated editorial design and clearer, more supportive sewing instructions. This is part of TAUKO’s ongoing work to make carefully curated sewing knowledge more accessible to makers with different levels of experience.
Each design includes printed sewing patterns and thoroughly prepared step-by-step instructions. Sizes fit a bust measurement range of 78–146 cm.

In addition to the patterns, the issue includes essays and stories that explore layered dressing as both a practical and an emotional phenomenon – a way of shaping how we move through the world, what we show of ourselves, and what we protect.
