Embroidery needles are sometimes also called Crewel needles. Embroidery needles are similar in length and diameter to sharp needles and have a sharp point. However, they have a long and especially large eye, which makes threading the needle much easier when you use several strands of twisted cotton embroidery thread.

Sizes 1, 2, 3 and 4 are ideal for embroidering thick fabric with twisted yarn and this is often referred to as crewel work. The most popular and most commonly used size for embroidery is size 7, but the finer sizes 8, 9 and 10 are excellent if you prefer a finer and shorter needle.
